Chafing under the restrictions on their freedom, they demanded to be regarded as the legal adults they were, and they got their wish. Lisa Wade spent years observing hookup culture on college campuses across the United States and analyzing all the good data available. So I'm definitely not a fan of this form of writing. Hookup culture also exists outside of the college environment.
Wade joins a growing area of social science that is examining the effects of hookup culture on students, and the rationale behind it. She is an accomplished scholar and award-winning teacher with degrees in philosophy, human sexuality, and sociology. By this time popular interest in college life had reached a fever pitch and the fraternity man was at the center of the story. But one of the main problems that I see within these excerpts are the fact that students don't seem to have the backbone to say no, or to defy the expectation of peers. The chapter on the sex itself describes it as drunk, frantic, typically short-lived, and not particularly orgasmic or reciprocal.
This is fascinating and enlightening and, ultimately, reassuring. The author did a good job of describing the culture on campus rather than just focusing on what is happening, which I thought was a good approach. At Yale students detonated a bomb, occupied buildings, and drove back a local militia. Wade fails to see that there is no making a healthy hookup culture.

Some worry that if society disconnects intimate sexual behavior and emotional connection, teens who hook up will have trouble forming stable intimate relationships later in life. This book wins the superlative for being the most readable sociology book that exists to share an individual's research. It absolutely made me see things differently as I went about my life at work, bars, or any social situation. Although I was a commuter, I enjoyed learning about the secret world of campus after dark and learning about what I missed.
